December 4th is a very important day for our Armed Forces. On this day, in 1912, immediately after the proclamation of Independence, the National Ministry of War was created, marking the creation of the Albanian Armed Forces. Although this anniversary has found the Armed Forces at the helm of work to help all Albanians affected by the tragic earthquake, it marks a higher representation of Albanian girls and women in the military, observing some of the principles of gender equality. The Association "Woman, Security Peace" has strongly lobbied in recent years through the implementation of projects, in co-operation with other national and international civil society organizations, to increase the participation of girls and women in military forces and the respect of gender quotas and their implementation through European models. Reinforcing policies that integrate gender aspects into peace and security issues have also been the goal of drafting an Inter-Institutional Action Plan in our country, 2018-2020 “On the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on“ Women, Security ” and Peace. " Gender-based issues in the security sector still need to be addressed according to the first data of the International Action Plan Monitoring report, although some positive achievements have been noted.
